Can to tulip.
The appearance was a murky golden bronzed yellow color with some bubbles inside of a foamy head. None of it really sticks around and just a semi-filmy foamy wispy lace.
The aroma had some vanilla and orange pulp. Touch of grapefruit juice with some sour citrus pith. Underscored by some passion fruit.
The flavor leads with a tart fruity grapefruity to orange pulpy sweetness, some juice. Mild dry orange pulpy aftertaste, some grapefruit.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Good carbonation. Some dryness but also some smoothness. Finishes grassy with some dry grapefruit rind and passion fruit.
Overall, I'd say a pretty nicely done fruited sour ale; grapefruit, passion fruit plus orange pulp. Vanilla is low key enough.

perhaps a few too many things going on here as i read into this one. its a sour ipa, which is really all it says on their menu, and its hazy and liberally dry hopped, which many of their beers are, i thought they may have just run a quick souring on this, but it turns out it also has almonds and vanilla and lactose and passion fruit in here, thats too much right? well, aside from this being a bit sweeter than it needs to be to balance the light citric acidity, its pretty minimal on passion fruit and almond and vanilla, i dont get a ton from any of those, which i think keeps this beery, its a neat idea and all, but unnecessary i reckon. the hops in this one are awesome, new school and juicy with tropical character, melon and guava to me, nice with the clean sourness, which is only middle of the road and loaded with lemony goodness, my first sour from these guys and they got that part down! the feel is creamy and i dont mind the lactose here, nice along with the oats and wheat in the mash, very soft feel here. i like this a lot, its tangy and the hops pop with freshness and fruity candy essence, not sure i need almonds and vanilla in it, the passion hint is quite enough. cool recipe, almost annoyingly trendy, but they did a good job with it and its neat how fast beer is evolving right now, even in little rural breweries like this. fun stuff.

From a growler, from the brewery, filled about four hours ago.
Hazy orangey-gold, with light, quickly-dissipating off-white head.

Smell is slightly sour orange and pineapple . A little bit of cream and vanilla, as in vanilla taffy - not the more boozy sort usually found in most vanilla-infused beers.

Taste is a moderately sour , jammy, mix of tangerine, passion fruit, lime zest, pummelo, guava and overripe pineapple.
Towards the finish, a light, bitter, herbal/floral element comes in, that is a mix of sage, horehound, and juniper. Assuming that is the influence of the Michigan Copper hops.
There is an occasional, very brief nutty note, as in licking the outside of an almond. If I didn't know about the almonds added, I would have thought this was from malt.

Medium feel , that is just barely oily, with very very fine carbonation tingle coming in at the latter stages. Increases towards the end, and lingers well after, giving a sight drying effect. A mucilaginous feel/effect at the back of the palate, after finish. (Ever chew on a Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra) twig? Similar effect, to a lesser degree.) As it warms up, I get a little lingering cyanic bitter peach pit flavor, after finish. I think that is a plus, as this sort of thing often ends up a tad sweet. Not this.

Overall, a very nice melding of two styles. Fruity, juicy IPA + Berliner Weisse-type sourness. Avoids the defect of overdoing the lactose - just enough to temper the tartness a little. If you like sour styles give this one a try .
