Canned 3/26/21. Let warm up for about ten minutes, before opening.
Hazy purplish-red, with one finger of grayish pink head, that leaves a ring and slight lacing. Nicked it slightly for the grayish tint. Gray food & drink detracts from the visual appeal (for me).
Smell is mostly brown sugar and maple, as advertised. It is that of cooked maple and brown sugar, as in baked beans or roasted glazed ham. There are brief hints of red wine, and cream cheese icing (from lactose) as would be found on carrot cake. It may sound odd but all-in-all, it's a good smell.
Tastes essentially like a mixed berry pie with graham cracker crust , and with a dab of whipped cream. Plus maple. Not sure if the maple is necessary, but it doesn't detract, and might be a good addition to an actual pie crust. Slight fruity tang near finish, as suggested by the beer's name, but I wouldn't exactly call it "sour". The is a very slight bitter herbal flavor that lingers after finish. (Michigan Copper hops?) Overall, only lightly sweet, balanced with the slight tartness, so it is much less sweet than might be imagined from the ingredients.
Feel is light-medium, slightly creamy, with very, very fine carbonation bite on the latter half. Slightly drying finish, that leaves the front of the tongue feeling lightly sanded.
Overall , quite enjoyable, and glad I picked it up. Not something I'd want every day, but good for an occasional visit. Seems as though it'd be good as a dessert beer, to accompany such things as cheesecake, key lime pie, and carrot cake. This could have been an overly-sweet, cloying mess, and it's nice that it isn't. :)
