Brownish dark amber body; one-finger thick head, creamy and dense; sheets of foam coat the glass. Very pleasing roasted grain smell; low-key, sweetness; caramel. Outstanding toasted malt flavor; toffee; a touch of brown sugar and roasted nuts; mild hop bitterness. Medium body; smooth; warm; a touch of alcohol dryness to offset the residual sugars.
I picked this up at the recently opened taphouse for Deuces Wild in central Colorado Springs. The beer just won the GABF gold for Scotch ale. I can see why. It has a classic and very satisfying malt-forward character, rich and flavorful. This makes for a most enjoyable cool / cold weather beer (or any time one would want a tasty brown beer).
