Drank from a 16fl./oz. (1 pint) can purchased at Five Churches Brewing Company, New Britain, CT
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a few cans of this.
Nice appearance. The beer poured a hazy, deep reddish-purple hue that might be best described as “plum.” A frothy, inch-tall, light violet crown topped the body, but it quickly dissolved. There was absolutely no head retention nor any lacing.
The aroma was amazing and totally reminded me of blueberry pancakes. Fresh blueberry notes came through strong. Lots of real maple syrup too. Sweet but appropriately so for the style. Fragrant vanilla notes were also apparent. There was a subtle dry, powdery yeasty quality as well.
The flavor profile was solid but definitely more subtle and more tart than the aroma. Blueberry was noticeable up front. Underripe blueberries perhaps. A tart lemony quality appeared in the center. Maple came through on the back end and intensified in the finish. Some vanilla was noticeable too.
The mouthfeel was rather forgettable. Thinner bodied for the style. A touch watery perhaps. The liquid contained a fine, subtle, somewhat spritzy effervescence.
While Das Froot Blueberry Pancake is balanced, refreshing and light in body, it is also packed with flavor and truly lives up to its namesake. (I swear this beer must contain maple syrup, even though the label mentions nothing of it!). I would love to see more fruited kettle sours go with this type of nuanced approach.

L - mixture of grape and plum juice out of the can. Dark, hazy purple with a dull, pinkish head.
S - maple up front with some medium/dark fruits coming in on the back. Blueberry jam, blackberries, and yogurt.
T - initial impression is the slightest bit of blueberry tart, then the pancakes come crashing in. Sweet maple syrup, mixed berry marmalade, and light cereal on the finish, which is dry and tangy like eating too much chocolate.
F - low carbonation which is perfect for this kind of beer. Feels bigger than it actually is, so it's got that fluffy body up front, but hollows out a bit toward the end, as expected from something only 5.5%.
O - this one is actually delicious. It's not perfect, namely that it kinda dies in the middle right before the finish, but it nails the blueberry pancake flavor. Has a touch of tartness to keep it refreshing. Good Sunday morning libation.
