Brewed for Vox Populi 30th Anniversary. An IPA that is triple dry-hopped with Idaho7 and Mosaic and then dry-“hopped” with grapefruit peels.

A thanks to the captain of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Despite a gentle pour, this beer came out fast, resulting in a hazy golden color with a 2 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, tropical fruits. Taste is grapefruit, orange peels, light papaya, moderate bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

How did I come to get this CAN? I was at the Roy Pitz CANnivesary party in PHL not this past Saturday, but Saturday a week prior (Sa, 23 June 2018) & their facility is in extremely close proximity to both the newest Yards & Love City B.C. so we did a walking tour. Imagine my elation, shock & surprise when the owner comes out to greet us & it was none other than Kevin Walter! Kevin was the second brewer at IHLNC, but when he moved on, I lost track. He was gracious enough to gift one of each of his CANned offerings to me for inclusion in The CANQuest (tm) & here we go!
From the CAN: "30th Anniversary IPA"; "Vox Populi".
I like Kevin's idea of "dry-hopping" here. The Crack! came off without a hitch, but when I beCAN a slow, gentle Glug, it became obvious that it was going to be a hazebro of some stripe. I CANnot really blame him, since if those grapefruit peels were meant to impart flavor, then why strip the flavor away with filtration? I amped up my Glug to hurriedly empty the CANtents into the awaiting vessel. This led to the unbidden formation of just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention. Impressive, especially in this oppressive heat & humidity! Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was an example of what I was saying in an earlier review - I like that we are moving away from loads of Mosaic and other tropical-fruit hops & to a mélange that balances their inherent sweetness with some inherent bitterness. Yes, I could smell the usual tropical fruit suspects of mango, papaya, guava & passion fruit, but the grapefruit was not wasting any time in asserting its presence. Mouthfeel was full & creamy, as it should be in these hazy versions of an AIPA. The taste was just the opposite of the previous AIPA from Love City - now, the grapefruit was prevalent with the tropical fruit taking a backseat. I am not CANplaining, but others might as the pendulum has now swung in a bitter direction, which may be too much for some. There has to be a balance out there somewhere, if someone CAN just find it. Finish was dry & bitter, fine for my purposes, but perhaps too much for some. YMMV.
