This is the 2nd Memberhood beer for 2018 sold only to our faithful membership. For this beer we wanted to push our limits and see how far we can take our American Ale yeast strain. With the addition of some house made caramelized sugar as we as buckets of organic Vermont maple syrup we were able to get the beer up to 17.0% ABV. After fermentation we added raw coconut, real vanilla beans, and Brazilian coffee roasted by Mostra Coffee. All of these components were added without moderation and with the intention to equally shine in the finished product. Aromas and flavors of coconut and coffee hit you first followed by a dose of maple syrup coating your palate all while the vanilla lingers in the background from start to finish.

Pours like syrup with the color of black coffee from the bottle, nuances of coconut and maple in the nose accentuate that of the roast malts. In the glass it is completely opaque and coating the sides of the glass with it's syrupy being. At first sip you realize the deep complexity of this beer and sense the subtle presence of roast coffee and vanilla. There are layers of dark chocolate, mocha, maple syrup, roast malts, black currant and they delicately disguise every essence of the 17%ABV.
This beer opens up as it warms, mine having been opened and poured directly from my wine cooler at 40 degrees. Immoderation is a should be consumed at a leisurely pace, at least that is what it was for me. I savored my four ounce pour for over an hour, allowing it to warm to near the 66 degree room temperature before consuming the last swallow from the glass.
