This is a dream come true collaboration. Sierra Nevada Brewery reached out to do a double collab, one at our place and one at their place. We decided to do what we do best at each other's collab, a stout in Chico and a whole leaf IPA in Rocklin. Walking with Giants is a West Coast IPA brewed with a 5.5 lb per bbl combo of 100% whole leaf Cascade, Strata, and Citra hops. This unusual and more challenging approach gives you an aromatic experience similar to walking through a hop yard during the yearly harvest. The flavor is quite different too, which lends more hop "stickiness" that lingers longer than traditional pelletized varieties.

Teaming up with brewing giants of Sierra Nevada, Moksa brewers may feel like a David among Goliaths. But holding their own with a West Coast-styled IPA fueled with Cascade, Strata, and Citra hops show that these folks can hold their own.

Walking with Giants makes introductions with a pale golden straw pour while carrying a mild hop haze. As a creamy eggshell froth builds on the rim, the exuberant perfume of floral arrangements, citrus and tropical fruits fill the nose with a highly aromatic blend of hops. Sweeter once on the tongue, a mild mannered maltiness is brisk with honey, wafer and light bread crust.

And then a quick transition toward hops leaves much of the malts behind as the middle palate shifts toward citrusy hop flavors of orange and red grapefruit, then tropical flavors of pineapple and mango before finally trailing into an herbal and resinous bitterness of fragrant grasses, fresh herbs and dry pine.

Finishing mostly dry, bitter and overall hoppy, the session closes with a sense of crispness, cleanliness and refreshment with hints of leaf, tea, pine and fruit zest in aftertaste. It's incredible floral bouquet chases a bright and fresh character throughout the session without wavering.

Can poured into a Sierra Nevada Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours faintly hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Pine and zesty citrus, slightly dank grassy herbal notes, underlying tropical and stone fruit, biscuity bready malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Opens with resinous pine and citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and a touch of tangerine, slowly gives way to tropical and stone fruit, mango, peach, apricot, passion fruit, and a hint of strawberry, slightly dank herbal notes, a bit floral, biscuity bready malt, and just a touch of sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderately lively carbonation.

O: Could tell from the first sip that Sierra Nevada was involved. Proper West Coast IPA and a damn good Collab.

Pours the color of fresh straw. Head is white and sticks to the sides of the glass. Nose is piney. Taste was almost sweet at first with a faded bitterness. Not much bitter follow through unfortunately. Still of very good beer.
