fantastic west coast ipa, a treat to get to drink a beer from these guys, who are definitely in the cool kids club. this couldnt be simpler, and its impressive in its overall quality, seems wild how much better they seem to be doing with similar ingredients than most others, and thats my takeaway from this one. seems built on a basic pils malt structure, enough body, fresh earthy cereal character supporting a really bold hop profile and schedule, but this remains balanced, not because its sweet or full of crystal malt or anything, but because its carefully made and well informed. the hops are punchy and bright in this, strata driven to me, with hints of canned mandarin and fleshy coconut, along with pineapple notes from the mosaic but none of its catty character, citra doing its thing, fresh and lemongrassy and mostly in a support role here, and el dorado bringing ripe cantaloupe and an almost candied thing, the hops start crazy early in this one, including the bitterness, concentrated and as fresh as can be, almost crystalline or something, really punchy and intense without eroding into greenness and over hopped properties at all. this is clean as can be, super tidy on the ferment, well proportioned, and almost lager-esque to me with its dry back end, lighter body for the style, and pils malt character that stays in the mix. gorgeous refinement and execution, i could drink a ton of this, great fusion of these hop varietals too, this is expert and delicious!
