Our Cold Steeped series is designed to show off world-class coffee in stout form. We start by building an imperial stout packed with rich malty character, but with the roasty flavors and bitterness dialed down a bit, to make room for the coffee in the final profile. The coffee we selected for this iteration is a washed process from the Philippines, sourced and roasted by our friends at Mostra Coffee in San Diego.
The coffee is infused into the finished, chilled beer for a limited period of time, to mimic the cold brew process and lock in the aromas of a fresh bag of beans. We think this coffee’s notes of Chocolate, baking spices, and nutty finish blend seamlessly into the beer.

On tap at Moksa Brewing
A: Pours basically black with a frothy tan head that settles to a thin layer and leaves a little light spotty lacing.
S: Smooth fresh ground coffee pulls you right in, followed by toasty, nutty, and roasty malt, vanilla, chocolate, and toffee sweetness.
T: Toasty, nutty, vanilla, super smooth fresh coffee, milk chocolate, roasty earthy, a touch of spice, and some toffee sweetness.
M: Medium to full body, somewhat mild carbonation, soft and creamy smooth, only the faintest hint of warmth.
O: Didn't realize until I went to review this one that it was going to be beer #2500 for me here on BA. Don't think I could have picked a much better beer for the honor. Ridiculously smooth, really highlights the coffee without burying it in char and smoke. Exactly the kinda thing I was hoping to get to try here. Delicious!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
