Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle picked up at the brewery. Pouring into my snifter the beer is a rich black coffee color with no light passing through my glass when I hold it to the light. A dense and creamy tan head foams up about 1 cm and remains as a sturdy surface layer throughout the sampling.
The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, some bourbon notes, and some fusol booze hits that make me think this will be a sipper. No real hop presence here, which seems fine.
The first sip reveals a big chewy body with sticky slightly syrupy texture. Very fine and gently tingling carbonation rounds out the physical traits. Flavor is rich and malty with dark chocolate, roasted notes almost charred to be honest. Some sweet brown sugar and bourbon comes through with a little bit of dark fruit, I get figs. Finish is a little more bourbon that lingers, but not really any heat or warming in my belly, which I anticipated from the nose. So this is kind of nice.
Hops dont show through on the flavor either. This beer is a bit of a sipper due to thickness, not heat. I enjoy this BBA stout and Im glad I picked up a bottle.
