Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer is picked up from the brewery this afternoon and was canned on 1/12/21. The beer pours a dark black coffee color with a creamy tan head of .5 cm even after a gentle pour. This foam fades to a thin edge layer that sticks around during my sampling. Leaves some scattered lattice when I swirl or take a sip of the beer.
The aroma on this beer is roasted malt, bakers chocolate and a little bit of charred wood. No hop presence, no sweet brown sugar and no hints of the ABV.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with full mouthfeel and fine tingly carbonation. Beer does slide down easy on the swallow.
Flavor is similar to the nose and is pretty straightforward robust malt imperial stout notes. Not really any adjunct action here.
I get roasted notes and bakers chocolate some light dark fruit notes, raisin is buried in there. Then the roasted notes come back and again there is some char. This charred note lingers a bit after each swallow. I never get hops and the ABV is hidden very well. This is a straight forward Imperial Stout that doesnt have a lot of bells and whistles with crazy sweet flavors, but it works well for what it is and I enjoy this one. Worth a purchase if you like big roasty brews.
