We took our base robust porter and added some chocolate forward coffee from Ashlawn Farm Coffee out of Old Saybrook. The Costa Rican Willows variety presents a great balance of coffee notes to play off this roasty dark beer.

Im sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can of this beer poured into my .5L dimple mug. I picked up the cans at the brewery a few weeks ago. Canning date of 1-26-2021.
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with a creamy dense head of 4 cm foaming up, even with a gentle pour. this foam fades slowly but remains as a strong surface covering throughout the sampling. I do get some scattered and wispy lattice after each sip or swirl of the mug.
Aroma on this beer is not surprisingly rich with coffee, very roasty and a rich warm coffee nose. I also get a little dark chocolate and some general roasted malt. Nose isnt too robust and the coffee dominates for sure. No hop presence here and also not boozy at all.
First sip reveals a medium to light body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is fine and gentle as it rolls across my palate.
Easy drinking physical traits on this beer.
Flavor is also dominated by the coffee with some dark chocolate and roasted notes here too. The coffee is very roasty and does have a little acidity flavor note to it, but is otherwise pretty bold, not a sweet coffee flavor either. This is black coffee not "light and sweet" at Dunks.
No hop presence and booze is hidden. This is a nice coffee porter that features coffee up front and dominant. Im curious about the non coffee version now and will keep my eyes peeled for that one.
