1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - ok, this is certainly a new one for me, but if a pizza beer has been produced, then this is just a logical follow through, eh?
This beer pours a murky, pale golden straw colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat fizzy bone-white head, which leaves a bit of splattered sudsy lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, tart orange and white grapefruit citrus rind, some indistinct earthy spiciness, saltine crackers, and further leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, muddled domestic citrus peel, a hint of grainy corn, saline solution, and more leafy, floral, and piney verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly benign in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, with just a suggestion of wayward hops perhaps not minding their p's and q's here. It finishes off-dry, the malt (and corn adjunct, let's not forget about that) contending with some lingering mixed drink citrus and forest floor detritus counterpoints.
Overall - yeah, they should have called this one a 'Lime Corn Chip IPA' (think Tostitos), as there is nothing remotely taco-y about this offering. In fact, if I didn't know beforehand about the additions, I probably wouldn't have even noticed them. Anyways, still a good NEIPA, FWIW.
