Pours a black color. 1/3 inch head of a tan color. Decent retention and poor lacing. Smells of strong sweet malt, chocolate, lactose, hint of alcohol, hint of roasted malt, and slight wood. Fits the style of an American Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of smoke, sweet malt, alcohol, hint of roasted malt, slight chocolate, lactose, and a hint of fruit. Overall, weak appearance, lacking bodily depth, good feel, but just lacking in blend.

This bottle comes with a unique wrapping....a white, thick paper covers the bottle. The beer inside is a deep black liquid with a medium-brown head. The aroma is boozy...vinous and woody. A little smoke, a little roasted grain. A little malt. The taste is both sweet and surprisingly tart. The tartness seems misplaced. Full in body. Just okay.

Right out of the gates, the western Kentucky's St. Arnulf Alery pays tribute to both the imperial stout and the milk stout by intertwining the two and then layering it with the uniqueness of raspberry.

Jet Black and casting a soft coffee-like crème onto the rim, Hexagram leads with a sharply roasted scent akin to Turkish coffee and deep roast espresso. Smoky and with hints of grilled fruit, the stout leads into a robust sweetness of wonderfully burnt toffee, molasses and roasted marshmallows.

Its sweetness quickly subsides and the roasted barley commands the taste with strong impressions of scorched coffee, baker's chocolate, black walnut and a charred taste of campfire embers that play on a slight ashy finish. Raspberries also seem charred, playing off of the burnt malt, giving a playful twang and a bright berry taste to fuse with a broad woodsy hop finish and a bitter, tannin driven late palate.

Dry, ashy and laced with a piquant pectin bite, the burnt cream of the milk stout offer a tepid reprieve of vanilla to balance the char and fruit seed. Powdery oak and its toasted counterparts ensure a robust finish and a long roasty arid after palate.
