Pours an effervescent Chestnut with a thumb of tan head. Above average head retention & better lacing
S: Figs, dark cherry, brown bread, some grassy notes
T: Follows the nose, some toastyness & brown sugar, plus dryness & faint woody hops up front. Toastyness, leafy hops, hints of pears & figs once this beer is warmer. Finishes with some figgyness, a little dryness, toasty with a kiss of brown sugar & woody hops, so close to a 4.75
MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, carbonation does pick up a little once warmed up, warming
Super solid take on the style, pretty darn drinkable. If available, this would be in the rotation

16 ounce can into a pilsner glass. Had 6/2/22.
Pours a caramel/copper color, somewhat clear, with a huge head on an average pour with good retention and a good amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of caramel, toffee, malt, a hint of yeast, light herbal hops. Smells bready. Flavors of strong caramel, bread, malt, herbal and earthy hops, a little yeast, some hop bitterness midway through the finish. Smooth, a very good lighter medium body, well carbonated.
Great aromas and flavors, solid from top to bottom- even with the lighter feel. The hops and yeast give this a little bit of a pilsner flavor, which is an interesting tweak. Very enjoyable.

A creamy, three-inch foam is light beige and slowly receding. The beer is dark brown (SRM 24-28) with dark copper highlights. Patches of lace form on a Simpli pilsner glass above the clear Doppelbock.
The sweet aroma quickly fades, leaving strongly toasted, dark wheat bread. This has a sensation of dark tea and honey and is rather dusty. Warmth softens the rough edges adding molasses.
Rich malt melds with caramelized sugar for sweetness up front. Bitterness rolls in and out like gentle waves on the shore. Toasted wheat bread is prominent while raisins and dates are subtle yet clear. The finish is long with a light bite of alcohol. This beer has a favorable reaction to warmth.
The body is medium and chewy with alcohol right on target. Carbonation is soft and prickly, while the texture is soft and smooth.
This beer is definitely better at higher temperatures, and I went back to revise my scoring for aroma and flavor accordingly.

A: Pours a clear but almost opaque dark mahogany brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark amber + dark golden yellow + dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy dark beige head that slowly reduces to a handful of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of toasted + bready + dark + caramel + toffee malts with moderate amount of dark fruit (raisin) + molasses + caramel + toffee sweetness. Hints of cocoa + nuttiness with a light to moderate amount of lager yeast. Light to moderate aromas of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of toasted + bready + dark + caramel + toffee malts with moderate amount of dark fruit (raisin) + molasses + caramel + toffee sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of nuttiness and cocoa along with moderate flavors of lager yeast. Finally there is a just shy of moderate amounts of earthy hops which impart a hint of bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving moderate lingering malty sweetness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a relatively clean finish.
O: Drinks very easily considering the strength and the alcohol is well hidden with a pleasantly smooth mouthfeel. Enjoyable with lots of malt complexity and sweetness and some lingering residual sugars.

Enjoying a 16oz can out in The 'Zebo, courtesy of daughter Caitlin, a confirmed beer-geek in her own right!
The contents were transferred from said can to an eagerly awaiting Willi Becher glass. Checks in with an opaque, deep chestnut color. Has a 2" fluffy, rocky beige head to start, but it creeps back to a covering layer, with good lace. Aroma is of rich, semisweet malts, with brown bread and brown sugar notes. Has a solid medium body, almost getting to medium-plus. And it is quite smooth going down.
Taste picks up where the aroma left off.... lovely semisweet malts! Caramel, toffee, brown bread and sugar.... oh yeah! Also has notes of raisins and dates lurking throughout. It's somewhat like a booze-soaked brown bread or fruit cake. Digging this one mucho... Thnx, Caitlin! Prosit!!

Shimmering opaque dark brown pour with khaki head. Smell has big caramel, dark fruit, earth, with significant booze. Taste has big grape through out, fascinating. Caramel, dark fruits, earth, molasses, and toffee all wrap around the grape with lighter booziness on the finish. Feel is malty, smooth, lush, yet has a big presence on the palate, somewhat heavy. This is certainly new world but really well done!

Decanted from 16 oz (355 ml) can into a Broken Bow nonic glass; canned 03/24/21, code DBK 149.
A: Pours a crystal clear, dark copper color with a three finger, foamy, wheat colored head, a full finger of longer term retention, and sticky rings of lacing.
S: Tart with being acrid. Aromas of bread, toffee, cherrywood, molasses, and banana.
T: Semisweet. Distinct flavors of caramel/molasses, raisin/date, and cream soda in addition to elements of nose. Bitterness light and more or less balances the rest of the flavor palate.
M: Light bodied with solid carbonation. Rich and filling.
O: A gorgeous doppelbock, distinct but clearly within the style. I would have more of these if I could get my hands on them.
