When the whole is greater than a sum of its parts, the teamwork of Arpus, Third Moon, Tonka coffee and vanilla give this collaborative stout an edge in taste and complexity.
Dark, dark brown but just shy of black, Tonka Coffee Vanilla Imperial Stout kicks off with a dainty creme froth and a soothing, spicy, coffee laden scent. As the flavors greet the tongue, the sweetness of caramel, honey and cola frame a malty, toasty and roasty upstart. With the character of breakfast blends or kona coffee shows an earthen and nutty character, a light soilish roast is balanced with soothing vanilla and persistent malt sweetness. Spicy with hints of sarsaparilla, chai and light tobacco, the session finishes with an after palate of root beer and dr. pepper.
Full bodied, sweet and carrying a watery cola character, the collaborative stout is curious in its complexity yet shy with its mouthfeel and power in taste.
