Tap @ Il Punto, Bologna - Pours cloudy golden with a small thin foamy head. Medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma - Ripe orchard fruits, funky, straw, bretty notes. Taste - Light sour, ripe orchard fruits, hay/straw notes, vinous notes, crisp refreshing finish. Very nice lightly sour farmhouse ale.

Ca' del Brado "Invernomuto"
37.5 cl brown glass bottle, "Da consumarsi preferibilmente entro 022023 18002"
13,00€ @ Johnny's Off License, Via Dei Balestrari 9, Roma, IT
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's opened with quite a pop and some foam rushing out. In the glass it's fizzing like a soda pop with lots of bubbles racing upwards and supporting a thin head of white foam. The body is a hazy yellow gold. By now the head has dropped, which is common for sour beers, but the bubbles are still coming. It's highly carbonated like Champagne. In the nose it's earthy, funky, musty, and mineralish. It's clearly acetic, and there are notes of barnyard, wet straw, leather, and "horseblanket". Given all that I was expecting it to be much more sour than it is, puckeringly sour even, but it's not. It's not even that tart really, which is interesting. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being puckeringly sour I'd call this a 3 or 4. It's grainy, and sweetish, but also acetic, and softly fruity with orchard fruits (red apple, golden apple, mild green apple, pear, white grape, peach). Surprisingly the Brettanomyces notes are not as strong as they appear in the aroma, and the taste is overall very refined and fairly mild. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, or a little bit of both. It's certainly accessible to the uninitiated, and highly drinkable, but it's also a bit limited for those fond of sour beers. What I will say for sure is that on a hot day here in Rome with the sun beating down it's quite refreshing and enjoyable. Medium-light in body and effervescent.
