Our stout game is rumbling away in the background, building up traction slowly but surely and winning a solid fanbase of drinkers who love when we take a walk from the well beaten track of pale and hoppy. Having seen out the end of 2020 with two ends of the scale in an Imperial and more sessionable stout, our brewers wanted to embrace the less obnoxious cousin of the Imperial variety, and the result is Finding Dark Magic; a no-frills, straight up export stout. Letting the malt do the talking here, we’ve loaded this beer to the nines with Cara Special III, Black, Chocolate, Crystal and Oats to create a stout with bold coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted notes, before a whisper of bitterness checks in from a 10kg addition of Centennial in the whirlpool.

Well it’s not often that I get a beer new, but here we are, my first Polly’s dark beer
Purchased from Beermoth in Manchester City centre
Pours a jet black body with nice thick tight tan head
Aroma is blackjack chews with hints of fruit salad chews too, impressive
Flavour is a bit BIPA but it’s all good for a big hopped stout in the EI tradition
