August 2008: Cask at the GBBF 2008. Black colour, reddish brown in the highlights. Lovely complex aroma, roasted malts, oak, dark fruits, chocolate and liquorice. Nicely balanced flavour between the malts and hops, there is an assertive bitterness but it is not overdone.

500ml bottle: BBD 25 May 2013. Poured (twice) into a Palm badged stemmed tulip at home on 26 Apr 2013.
Deep, dark reddy brown with a good solid tan head on top from both pours.
Mildly malty in the nose: coming stronger as the beer warmed in the glass.
Slight smokey feel (peat bog style) to the semi-sweet malty taste. The beer appeared to be 'on the turn' as I got stale and vinegar flavours within the brew: I've scored as if they were not there!

Pours a Jet black body with decent enough tan head.
Dark aromas of liquorice, coffee, treacle and pontefract cakes.
Tastes of cola and coal, obviously not as sweet though slight peat and sour notes and hints of cinnamon.
When you couple the taste with a lighter than average mouthfeel ( just a tad to watery) and a slight over carbonation it all comes out more like a bottled mild.
I is puzzled, really.
