16oz pint at the recently opened location on Edmonton's southside, which kind of came right out of nowhere - the norm, now, apparently.
This beer appears a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as it quickly evaporates.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, some dank pine resin, mixed domestic citrus peel, a damp minerality, and more understated earthy, leafy, and herbal green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, muddled citrus and tropical fruity notes, wet stone paths after the rain, and more understated earthy, herbal, and grassy verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly meek in its perfunctory frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a so-so time at the moment. It finishes off-dry, the dank essences predominating.
Overall - this is certainly a new-wave 'session ale', with the weird (not really) hop character taking us all on a jaunty ride, one which is not all that unfamiliar to this beer trainspotter. Worth checking out, given the actual lower ABV, FWIW.
