My first beer from Rutland Beer Works. This is a capable stout. Nice dark cola pour with an off-white head. The nose is strongly chocolate and roasted barley. This is true to the flavor as well, with roast taking the lead and chocolate in support. Very nice sweet and roast balance. The finish is roasty and long-lasting. A stout of substance. Looking forward to more Rutland Beer Works sampling.

On tap at Hop n Moose. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color. A one finger white to off white foamy head dissipated lightly. Slight amount of rimmed foamy lacing is left in rings. The smell had a sweet to roasty coffee and cocoa bean arranging itself in between some sweet grainy oatmeal flavors. The taste was a nice balance between the sweet and the roasty portions of the previously mentioned flavors. Lingering roasty / sweet aftertaste. Wet sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Pretty good sessionable feel to it. Carbonation felt good. Overall, a fabulous oatmeal stout well worthy of having again, hoping they can this.
