Can to chalice, the appearance had a lighter dark brown color in the pour yet had a slightly darker brown color in the glass. Eggshell white foamy to semi-bubbly head fizzled off in my ears. Just a wispy play of concave lace rides along the edges of the glass.
The aroma had roasted nuts, Belgian chocolate, anise, milk chocolate, dark bready toastiness, sweet yeast and some Belgian spices.
The flavor leaned towards a wonderful combination of sweet Belgian chocolate, peanuts, dark bready toastiness, mellow spices and a light touch of roasty nuts. Semi-sticky aftertaste of roasty nuts, sweet coffee, Belgian chocolate and peanuts.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. This ABV seems to give way to some leniency to gulp this one. Some stickiness before the finish which was nutty, semi-roasty, some Belgian chocolate and spices.
Overall, now that's a really good Belgian strong dark ale. Not exactly one I'd reach for this time of year but hey, I am super glad I tried this and hope they bring this back this Autumn when I'm more likely to enjoy this more!
