From can poured to glass, at GOW brewpub. No-gimmicks stout with strong, artistic flavor and Narwhal-like feel. Rich black opacity with a somewhat lackluster, watery head. Also good value for the sit-in price. I would go to anyplace that served this. Can't wait for my next chance.

Had this one as part of a flight of stouts and porters with my son last night. Another good beer considering I'm not a dark beer person. GOW is starting to make me a believer in dark beer. From the description I didn't notice the pine notes, but the other flavors came through. Rated 1-7-2025. Originally rated 5-24-2023.

Pours a finger of brown head into my nitro glass. Retention is average. Lacing is pretty nice. Body is pitch black. Looks good.
Nose has chocolate, roast, citrus, and pine. Hops jump out at you first - the pine is welcome and the citrus doesn’t overpower. Quickly settles into a firmer malt backbone, the roast bordering on coffee. This hop level and character is more akin to a black IPA, but it’s still a really nice, aromatic nose.
Flavor also leans more towards a black IPA at first, but again, I like it. Chocolate, roast, citrus, and pine are all here. The flavors really fight back and forth with one another. At times the citrus is a little high, but it usually grounds itself. It can get a tad astringent, but overall it’s pretty tasty.
Carbonation is medium. Body is on the lighter side, but there is some sweetness in the finish that gives it a little pull. Bitterness is elevated. A little abrasive at times, but overall it’s a good mouthfeel.
Drinkability is ok.
Overall it’s a solid beer. Pretty assertive flavor, works most of the time.
