been seeing more from these guys around town lately, seems like a sales push has come recently, more kegs in the bars than ever, and i see this as much as any other, a sturdy brown ale with locally roasted coffee. cool proportions to this, a ton of coffee including its bitterness, a little middle malt sweetness but plenty of roast too, good depth, and overall cleaner than a lot of other beers ive had from these guys, but still not quite perfect there, overall a nice offering, more early fall than almost spring to me, but the coffee is forward and fresh and i think this marks some measured improvement here. deep brown color on this, a short but lasting tan head from the tap, pretty good clarity, moderate luster. the aroma is coffee first with light toffee and sweet hazelnut nuance, a little chocolate malt adding some earthy desserty character and just a touch of caramel malt sweetness, maybe an english breadiness to the grain too, some minerals in the mix, and the slightest astringency, either from the yeast or from a little coffee acidity pushing through. the front end is sweet and the back end is bitter, again really coffee driven, short of burnt but deeply roasted and pretty intense, and i like the malt layers in support. medium body, toasted nuts and toffee to finish, warming but still drinkable, i think they did a nice job with this. ill be keen to try some of their other beers when i see them around now, its been awhile for me...

Draft at brewery. Dark, near black pour, small ring of head. Bitter, roasty, coffee aroma. Taste too favors the coffee, thin but biting. Sharp, works well with the brown style
