a simple but tasty whiskey barrel aged russian imperial stout here, the first thing like this i have ever had from these guys, for me their most ambitious brew to date. its shiny and near black in my glass, not overly viscous or leggy, but looks the part. more wood than whiskey to me, specifically barrel char, deep and sturdy along with the roasted grain in here, this has a ton of low end on it, dark cold brewed coffee, baking chocolate, and some tobacco too. its smooth but not all that full bodied to me, at least compared to its peers, and it doesnt seem all that mature, like maybe just a few months or so in the barrels instead of years, but i dont mind that, more stout than whiskey here, and that is my preference in these anyway. some sweet middle malts to this but pretty quick to finish, clean enough on the ferment, not real boozy either, maybe a little muddy overall, but i think for this being a little basic they have done a nice job with it on the whole. its been way too long since i have been in here, need to get back there soon. this is definitely a step forward for them...
