a unique barrel aged golden sour done with hibiscus, a cool beer, a special gift, and a treat to share in an online session with my brother from quarantine, good heavens these are weird times! not as pink as a lot of beers with these flowers, but a little color to it, pretty packaging on this one, but a less attractive beer in the glass. aroma of not quite ripe strawberries that still have some white on them, lime, and white wine, along with a little more malt than i need in this. piquant to drink, lemony acidic, with a light white vinegar note, some astringency, but also some cool oaken funk, but weighty and grainy to taste, i wanted a little more from this, maybe drier, more obvious with the hibiscus, maybe more weird, im not sure, but it tastes a little run of the mill for being as process intensive as it is, also not as well refined as their best funky beer, which i was blown away by at the brewery this past holiday season. this seems ambitious in terms of idea, but less compelling in the mouth, hibiscus and wine and oak and funk are all there, but this beer overall isnt at the level i hoped it would be. here is hoping the others in my cellar hit that level they all seemed to be at when i visited this place. dont get me wrong, this is nice, but its also not as special as it should be...
