Canned on 08-01-20. Brewed in collaboration with Evergreen. I would assume Evergreen is another brewery. Very little info on the can other than that, though the can art is credited. Said art is weird intentionally I would again assume. Possibly the artist's idea of a ferocious little organism of unknown origin.
The beer is a medium amber, dense looking with protein haze as opposed to oatmeal murk. A thick, clotted head forms and subsides quickly leaving a solid ring of lace clinging above the beer.
Aroma is malt and tepid citrus with some hints of alcohol and crushed flowers. I expected a bolder aroma but am happy with a malt forward nose for a change.
The flavor is also understated and very well balanced. More sweet malt and strong mashed grain character mix seamlessly with firm, grass and conifer hop flavors and bitterness. There is a sour hint initially that seems to disappear.
The body is medium +, nearly full but not heavy with a lush and almost creamy mouth feel. Great weight on the tongue that is slathered with rich caramel and pine needle bite. In no way soft in it's bittering but not at all harsh or out of balance.
The finish is long and hop- burpy, chewy even while the alcohol still hides in the blankets of flavor.
Very nice old-style Double IPA with maybe a couple new age tricks.
