A wonderful beer, smooth and subtle. Consistent natural carbonation from the bottom of the glass. White with a yellowish tint and foamy head measuring at about 3 fingers. Notes of a mix of different spices and banana to top it off. One of my favorite Weissebier’s, last sip feels like the first. Has a Yellow-Amber tint to it revealing your fingers on the other side of the glass but not transparent enough to read through it. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the New Haven area!

Sampling a lightly chilled 12 oz bottle poured into a weisse glass.
Picked up at a local beer shop today.
The beer pours a foggy golden color with a fizzy bleached white head of 1.5 cm.
This foam fades quickly to a thin surface layer. Several active streams of carbonation rise to the surface.
The aroma is some doughy yeast, light banana and some clove too. Sort of mild nose but all appropriate scents.
The first sip reveals a light and crisp textured body, and very fine prickly carbonation. Definitely feels the part of summer crusher.
Flavor is what the nose advertised.
Light yeast, here i get a little lemon, which wasnt on nose. Banana is very mild almost absent. Some spicy cloves come through on the finish and linger a bit. No hint of booze.
This is an enjoyable, albeit sort of mild brew. A good startoff for the weekend wheat beer tasting!

East Rock Brewing Co. "Weisse Bier"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
$1.83 @ Mo's Wine & Spirits, Fairfield, CT
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's a hazy golden beneath a short cap of white foam that's all too ready to fade away into nothing. The aroma offers sweet wheaty malt with banana and soft clove, and a touch of floral character. It's not bad. I wish the head had held up better but so far it's a decent Bavarian-style weizen. The taste is the truly deciding factor though so let's see... yeah, it's good. I hate to say it, but to be honest it's better than some of the weizens I've had from small breweries in Germany. What's lacking is the carbonation. I can understand why they've done that as packaging highly carbonated beers can be a real pain in the ass, and as this is naturally carbonated that could lead to even greater issues, but even a little bit more would be nice. It's medium bodied. Otherwise it tastes exactly as it smells, and it's nicely balanced by a moderate bitterness. Enjoyable.

Really interesting hefeweizen/weisse. In my opinion, a bit more of the banana and clove rather than the more balanced and hoppy dry finish that you would find in more traditional German hefes, or at least the one's that I've had. However, East Rock really does a good job with it. While the banana and clove is predominant, I wouldn't say it's to the point that it's too unbalanced. I don't think I ever felt that this beer was too acidic or sour because of that as you can find with more unbalanced examples.
I think they did a great job with this one; I think it is one of the best if not at least one of the most unique examples of the style in CT (unlike the Two Roads No Limits).
