This is an incredibly tasty dunkel which is as good as any in Germany & better than most - with the exception of Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel (still brewed by monks - since yr. 1050). This family brewery has a reach of maybe 50 km in Germany & I look forward to it with fond anticipation. I seem to be in (the famous) Rothenburg every year or two & that's where I find it. Only had it on-tap. It is on my top 10 list. A delicious dunkel with notes of coffee & dark chocolate from the roasted barley - locally grown in upper Bavaria. This is dunkel done right. You won't find much better. Wish I could find it in the USA - at any price.

From the bottle, it pours a clear brown color with a modest very light tan head that diminishes to a nice ring and leaves a bit of lacing. The nose gets a very light scent of malt. The taste is light roasted malts.
