Roasty, toasty, chocolate, caramel and coffee notes. Distinctly American, while perfectly balanced with English noble hops.

Tasted from a crowler filled at the Apex, NC, taproom.
L - Medium brown color and slightly hazy. Off-white head fell quickly to a partial sheet of bubbles and some light lacing.
S - A bit of chocolate, nutty and light coffee notes, but burnt grain and herbal hops are higher in the balance than I like in this style.
T - Flavors of chocolate and pumpernickel bread from the malt. Herbal and woody hop flavors. Very clean with a little yeast fruitiness and chocolate that reasserts in the aftertaste.
F - Medium to thin body is appropriate to style. Moderate to low carbonation. Light to moderate hops bitterness. No alcohol presence.
O - This is a clean, drinkable, appealing version of a style that is often attempted and rarely executed well, in my experience. The aromas are its weakest point, but the flavors are spot on and yummy.

Drinking this at The Vicious Fishes Brewery in Apex NC
Poured from a tap into a pint glass.
Appears light brown with a nice foamy tannish head that lasted.
Smells toasty, malty, chocolatey, notes of coffee.
Taste follows the nose nicely.
Mouth feel is medium plus for the style.
Overall a very nice brown ale that I would definitely order again.
