We took our award-winning Imperial Stout, aged it in a Willett Bourbon barrel, and finished with a more sweet and oaky stout.

8 oz pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a plastic cup emblazoned with a piranha. I let it warm for about 20 minutes as I drank an IPA. It pours an inky black color with a light mocha head and modest cap of foam that dissipated quickly. The smell is very fragrant with roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee caramel/toffee, and the distinct aroma of bourbon. Its taste is very much bourbon-forward; the Willett barrel influence is strong and oaky. The coffee is burnt and acidic. I can taste the chocolate and caramel but they are deep in the background. There is a decidedly sour mash vibe. It's complex and very flavorful. The mouth feel is thick and creamy with a low level of carbonation, and to me it drinks bigger than the posted 10% ABV. Overall, the bourbon barrel aged variant of Mooncusser is first rate and enjoyable.
