gorgeous black currant wild ale here on oak, mature and light to drink, funky and lively, really super good, thankful to have been able to share this with my brother at the source, rad little front porch area they have here overlooking the street, could have sat there all night drinking there! stunning almost ruby red color, deep pink with less haze and body, and more clarity, than almost any i have ever had in this space, looks crazy refined for what it is, fizzy and sexy. it smells tart more than funky but some weird wild character too i guess, definite tang and tannins from the currants, lots of fruit in this, front and center and natural in the aroma. the oak is subtle but adds an obvious vinous quality with the sharp currants, drying and even kind of crisp for what it is too, light on the grain side but thats okay, it works. the flavor is epic, juicy fruit, easy to place as currants but there is red wine and red raspberry character in the mix as well to my tastes, not aggressively sour just pleasingly tart, refreshing still. the wood is kind of light, the funk comes out more as it warms up a little, and its gorgeously effervescent the whole way, a joy to drink on. summery and interesting, a sensational use of the currants, and a nice fermentation profile. these guys are doing wonderful things and this was in my top handful we had from them while we were in town!
