Bourbon IPA
Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a dark amber color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades very fast to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew big of a bourbon smell that with it contains some smoke and char. Along with these boozy smells comes a decent showing of a bready smell as well as a good showing of a caramel smell. Rounding out the aromas is just a bit of an earthy and herbal hop smell, that with the rest, create a very nice aroma.
Taste – The taste begins as the nose would have suggested with a slightly caramel sweetened and rather bourbon like flavor. At the same time there is some slightly grainy and bready tastes that with the bourbon and caramel flavors create a base flavor for the brew. The hop is very light upfront, but as the taste moves forward some citrus and earthy hop flavors work their way onto the tongue. With the hop, also comes some flavors of smoke and a bit of char, leaving one with a slightly malty and sweeter, lightly hopped and bourbony taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average to slightly thicker side with a carbonation level that is a little on the lower side. For the bourbon, smoke, caramel and lighter hop the feel is fantastic and makes this easy drinking but super flavorful brew.
Overall – I very much enjoyed this brew. While it really isn’t an IPA powerhouse, I really liked the slightly sweetened bourbon taste in conjunction with the other flavors. Rather tasty.
