Stopped by for a few beers /take out before heading over to OH FLX.
Very impressed; beers and people.
Looking fwd to stopping by much more often... once they nail down their new tap room.
Overall 4.4 at that time.
Update: 2022
Increasingly impressed with the quality and availability of excellent Imperial stouts and DIPAs when I visit Mortalis. While I’m not a fruited sour/ schmoogee guy; they clearly are a true standout in this area of brewing and others would sing their praises here as well.
People working there are absolutely top notch!
Another huge thing for me is ability to try excellent collaborations with breweries from around the country. Last trip even had a couple taps of Fiden’s IPAs; collab DIPA with Beer Zombies; to go along with standout Imp Stout collab with Imprint (“Written in the stars”) while otherwise releasing their BA Zuul for Halloween. Jaw dropping quality.
I think the post-COVID Mortalis has become an outstanding place to visit, and has become my mandatory stop; then I check out the other breweries.
FWIW…I recently attended a beer festival & east coast Maryland inc 60+ breweries from Vermont/NH/MA; San Diego; NYC; Las Vegas; Carolinas; mid west and mid east… Mortalis was known to most if not all of them; many have already done collabs.
Mortalis has now expanded into Rochester Public Market as well as purchasing Rochester’s The Richmond restaurant and now has 3 great options for trying their beers; collabs; food etc.
Definitely growing into a destination brewery/ brew pub experience.

I've visited hundreds of breweries and have had thousands of different beers. I've been pondering these places and beers for almost a year now, trying to think of anyone else doing what Mortalis Brewing does. I keep coming up with DFH, who would place a very distant second in terms of creativity.
Mortalis is, BY FAR, brewing the best beers I've ever had, and they're creating new and pleasing concoctions all the time.
That said, if you are looking for beers brewed to a strict definition of style, you're going to struggle here, though it's not necessarily impossible. Their IPA's and DIPA's are outstanding. When it comes to their sours, stouts, among other styles, Reinheitsgebot is out the window (cheers to that!). They're thinking outside the box when it comes to the adjuncts in the beers. Sometimes they seem way outside the box. THAT is the beauty of this new brewery.
As for the venue, it's in a commercial metal building and there is little to absorb the sound. It is noisy and a bit cramped at times, but in my estimation, they'll outgrow this space before long.
In all my travels seeking-out breweries , I'm so excited to have Mortalis in my own back yard. This is the beginning of something truly great. Keep it up!

The vibe is very cool. Wooden tables and table tops over whiskey barrels on wheels. Provides ample seating except at the busies of times. The mural on the wall ties in great with their theme of everything/everyone being connected. Their beers are top notch. They really push the envelope to develop styles that are unique. At the same time everything they put out has been super drinkable. Yes, their beers can be sweet at times or a touch on the boozy side. But they are all so well balanced that it keeps you wanting to go back for another sip. The service is great. It does take a few minutes at times to get a drink, but their system ensures that everyones wait time is equal. The food is great too and gets brought out to wherever you are sitting quickly. The selection is fantastic. They pretty much always have a couple IPAs on, usually NE style, as well as a couple stouts. There is also a number of fruited beers and usually something that is completely unique. I look forward to visiting this brewery as often as possible.

Mortalis is by far the best brewery beer wise I have ever been too. The beers are incredibly imaginative and great. I fear they will outgrow their current space soon. I just hope they stay in Avon!

Wow this place is excellent! Medium sized place with an indoor seating area and an outdoor seating area. They had 12 of their beers on tap varying from sours, ipas, dipas, milkshake ipas, and stouts. Their sours are definitely my favorite style that they make especially their hyrda and medusa sour series (so fucking good). Their stouts were also very good and their IPAs were solid; nothing that blew me away but, still very good. Service is always great having friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. As far as selection goes...the reason I gave them a 4.25/5 and not a higher rating was because, although their beer is world class I've never once seen a lager, pilsner, wheat, or an amber on their draft list. I love that they are good at making the some types of styles but, they should definitely have something on the light side for the consumer that isn't a huge craft beer drinker. Overall great place that I highly recommend to beer geeks and I definitely will be returning!

Pretty busy little spot. Lots of seats, self serve water and decent sized bar. Very quick service and people walking around to collect empty glasses. Single person bathroom is unfortunate and my only minor complaint.
