For a beer brewed in San Marino, Black List has such a classic American Stout profile that I rarely find here in the US these days. It reminds me of the stouts I was drinking back in 2005 before Russian Imperials took over.
The pour from the bottle was intense with an incredibly thick head. Basically an unintentional mlĂko pour! Head was a nice toasty tan and the beer is a very dark opaque brown with a red hue when you hold it up to the light. Very little on the nose.
Once you work your way past the head, this full bodied stout has a great bitter chocolate flavor with a pretty healthy dose of black coffee grinds. The finish is on the dry side, but in a very pleasant way.
I would say this was almost nostalgic for me. I love the heavy hitting barrel agreed stouts you get on the shelves these days, but it's been so long since I've had a beer that so fully embodies the classic American Stout profile I used to love so much. And again, so crazy that this beer comes from the only brewery in San Marino!! Really a great beer. Salute!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
