Imagine my surprise as I'm walking through a supermarché in Lyon France when I spot a beer called Cape Cod. Being from the Boston area, I wondered if this was some sort of import. It's not. It's a brewer in France which likes to give their beers exotic (at least to the French) names.

Huge, dense head--2/3 of the glass. Slow to recede. Leaves a large foamy dome in the center while also leaving a collection of spots on the glass. The dome is present throughout the entire tasting--impressive. The liquid is light amber and very hazy, but not yet cloudy.

The smell on the initial pour is yeasty like a home brew. There's an aroma of spent malt with a bit of hop bitterness appearing as a spice.

The taste is similar to a highly hopped home brew. The bitterness is strong even on the initial sip. It never overwhelms but it is the dominating flavor throughout the tasting. The malt base can be teased out (rather standard stuff) but doesn't make much of an impression. The carbonation is remarkably neutral while the body could be described on the thinner side. The aforementioned yeast also adds to the bitter bite. I get a long aftertaste as one would expect.
