Chill haze burnt amber to chestnut red with a short but firm khaki fuzz settling to a thick collar leaving ridges of lacing.
This is clearly more in the American vein, exhibiting an almost woody pine bitterness that's not too sharp, softened by a lightly warming toffee accented with orange rind. It's even a little dank and ruggy, but inoffensively so. This is overall a hop showcase in a much bigger beer, with a toasty graham backbone filling out as it warms.
The frothy medium body finishes paper dry, and is oddly drinkable in spite of its punch and heft. Overall this is a really solid, old school American barleywine. Actually, it's like a way better Arrogant Bastard, but certainly still features a little fieriness to it.
