Poured from a crowler that was purchased from the brewery. It begins with a large head that quickly subsides into a filmy top; there is heavy lacing around the glass. There is a deep and dark body - impenetrable to light. The nose is subtle, yet distinct: plums, perhaps? It tastes like a sweet porter with a nice and easy feel. This is not a heavy beer, though most stouts are not. Alpine Haus is good for one or two quaffs before it gums up the palate. Definitely, a nice dessert beer, if anything else. In any case, True Respite is worth a stop if in the glorious suburb of Rockville.
