This dry, slightly grainy brew has tropical notes on the nose and a citrus follow up that balances its firm (but not too firm) bitter finish. For those who are turned off by the bitterness of IPAs, have no fear.

16oz can into a pint glass. Canned 3/29/22, so 3 1/2 months old.

Very interesting look to this one. Initially a crystal clear golden yellow body. Dump in the last few ounces and it becomes hazy. Small head shrinks to a ring and covering, specks of lacing.

Light aroma, a little fruity.

On tasting, initially the clear body gives the impression of a NE ipa, soft, fruity. After the last few ounces are poured, it turns hazy, but with a serious WC ipa grapefruit bitterness. Two beers in one!

Mouth above medium, finish fruity with a bitter grapefruit wash.

Overall, good beer. Enjoyed it down to the last drop. Sad to have only the single.

Lucky me. I don't live far from Hastings, MN where Spiral Brewery is located. So far my favorite of their beers is Downward Spiral. It has a pleasantly hoppy citrusy flavor and full of body. One of the best beers I have tasted. I am fairly sure it is only sold on tap at the brewery and a few brew pubs in the MSP area. If you get chance to try it, It is a good middle ground of the West Coast IPAs and the New England IPAs.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden auburn color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, caramel and strong pine notes. Very malt heavy with toffee, caramel and big, piney bitterness.
