8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - this would be the 'session' incarnation of the strong pale ale that I had here last week.
This beer appears a hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of weakly puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent painted lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of juicy, berry-forward candy, mixed domestic citrus peel, grainy and crackery cereal malt, and further leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, some strawberry bubblegum, muted orange and generic grapefruit citrus rind, and more earthy, musty, and piney hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly benign in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really causing any concern here, as such. It finishes off-dry, the blended frootiness winning the lingering day.
Overall - yeah, this one does well to not come across as a dumbed-down or thinned-out pale ale, instead providing a swath of robust fruity flavours. Easy to drink, no loss of mouthfeel from the lowered ABV, and worth pounding back on all those imminent sunny patios we've all been anticipating for far too long now.
