Avalon IPA takes inspiration from our favorite approaches to the modern IPA from both sides of the Atlantic to the West Coast. Brewed with Golden Promise & Pilsner malts with a dash of wheat and oat malt, Avalon manages to provide the generous mouthfeel of an East Coast IPA with some solid West Coast structure and a Dutchess Ales must; classic British balance. Hopped with an array of expressions from El Dorado, Summit & Palisade, - Avalon shows nectarine, apricot, juicy citrus, woodsy meadow flowers & just a hint of something tropical. Overall it’s a rewardingly lush yet refreshing and nuanced drinking experience.

Murky, kinda orange brown, steady off white foam topper. Nose is toast and mild stone fruit.

Taste brings woody apricot pit, floral, medium kilned malt, citrus, light grassiness. Medium mouth feel. Finish sees a dank kinda herbal thing linking up with the citrus. Different.

I had this on tap at Equal Parts Brewing in Houston. Apparently Equal Parts are contract brewing, or collaboratiin with Dutchess Ales in some way, as several beers are available at the Equal Parts taproom.

A: This pours a murky golden/yellow color. With a white head that recedes after a moment and some lace left behind.
S: Some fruit hops and orange/citrus aromas. Fairly one noted, and average.
T: Like the nose, citrus/orange rind and fruity hops. There is some bitterness lingering, but it is light, and again just kind of average. Nothing here suggests "English IPA" though.
M/O: A medium body and "soft carbonation" that is more under carbonated to me. There is a slick and oily coating that makes this feel very muddled, and its overall not something I want to really come back to.

I don't know whats going on between Dutchess and Equal Parts here in Houston anyway. Equal Parts seemed to have just as much from Dutchess as they do their own beers on my latest visit. This was not a particularly good example of an English IPA in any meaningful way though. The oily slickness mixed with the more American hop character just made this muddled.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of floral and earthy hops are present in the nose along with notes of citrus.
T: The taste follows the smell but also has underlying notes of pale malts. The hops contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied, crisp and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and has a good balance between the malts and the hops in the taste.
