Digitox is a scaled up, hoptimally saturated Double IPA version of our beloved Foxglove. Ramping up the New Zealand and American hop combination that is near and dear to our hearts is not a project we took lightly. True to Foxglove's straw yellow color and pillowy mouthfeel, Digitox exudes big flavors of white wine grape, ripe melon, grapefruit, and berries.

Dense and growing head on the initial pour. Excellent chunky ring lacing throughout the tasting. The liquid is amber with plenty of cloudiness. It looks like a fruit juice.

Fruit punch (with an emphasis on pineapple) and pine smells. I also pick up some drier citrus rind and light cream. Appealing.

Smooth body with a lower carbonation, this beer has a touch of alcohol warmth. The malt portion is closer to a drier stone fruit base, like apricot. The hop brings the bitterness balance prior to the swallow. The finish leans to the peppery side but the aftertaste doesn't goes as long as I would expect. Overall, this beer represents the best aspects of a DIPA without bludgeoning the drinker with anything extreme.

From the bottom of the can: "03/21/22 12:21"

Appearance: It is a pale, straw colored yellow that is completely opaque. The head is large, white, and ruffled with ripples of large and small bubbles. It has good head retention and low, slow sweeping lacing that groups together in continents.

Aroma: It smells a bit soapy with an Irish Spring and wildflower note intermingled with hints of fresh orange zest. As a whole it feels fresh and desirable.

Taste: The flavor is light and airy but follows the aroma quite closely. It has a somewhat soapy and wildflower-like character that bounces just off of the tongue until it is latched by an orange-like flowery sweetness. It is light, enjoyable, effervescent, and it has this sweetgrass finish which is pleasant. It dances on the tongue like sweet hay. There is a light grassy finish that is curtailed mostly by sweetness rather than the expected bitterness. It feels very well orchestrated.

Mouthfeel: The texture resides on the upper edge of medium-bodied and as a whole the thickness of the beer feels very enjoyable to drink considering the complex sweetness of the beer. It leaves a sweet grassy slickness around the mouth which is expertly aligned.

Overall: Sometimes you run into an outlier that manages to surprise you. This beer has it all; bitterness and sweetness in a package that is wrapped so effortlessly. I plan to revisit this again. I obviously would drink it again and as a whole it is worth recommending.

Can dated 3/21/22 into pint glass. Pours a murky honey-gold with a substantial off-white head. Great lacing! Initial impression is a super-juicy citrus bomb, with pineapple, pink grapefruit, and mango dominating. Fairly sweet, too. Mouthfeel is super soft. Finish is sweet but fades to s light bitterness. Overall, I really like the mouthfeel and - yes, I admit it - the sweetness. YMMV.

Modest head production and OK retention at best. Opaque lemon-yellow brew with a hint of range. Nice lacing.

Extremely aromatic hop-forward brew. Flowers, light earth, mango, pineapple, mandarin orange, lemon, kitchen herbs, mild to moderate dankness.

Very smooth on the palate, really allowing the ample malt base to provide some sweetness and juiciness to the hop expression. Moderately to strongly dank on the palate, growing throughout the sip; more weedy, pungent dankness than on the aroma. Overripe tropical fruit reign over citrus, with notes of peach, mango, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and guava, accented by lesser notes of orange creamsicle and berries.

Extremely smooth on the palate. Excellent expression for an imperial NE-style IPA. Low to low-moderate bitterness; very minor hop astringency, but it is present.

This beer is all about tropical and weedy hops. It lacks any noticeable citrus bite of its West Coast forebears (or even proto-NE, Vermont-style IPAs). As such, it probably appeals to some hop heads more than me, but it's a very well crafted beer overall.
