355ml can - somehow I'm guessing 'classic' implies plain and boring here, but we shall see.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden straw colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some thick chunky and streaky lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, a bit of underripe pome fruitiness, wet hay, and very subtle earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, baked white bread, a faint earthy yeastiness, some damp minerality, and more well-understated leafy, floral, and musky hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its innocuous frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and generally smooth, with nothing really obstructing a swell time at this particular point in the game. It finishes trending dry, the malt getting its Alberta biscuit on in its lingering state.
Overall - I don't know what classic is supposed to taste like (except for Coke, of course), but this is certainly one full-flavoured and robust malty ale, with just enough hop balance to keep it from going off the rails. Quite well-made, and enjoyable in its simplicity.
