Poured at fridge temp after fighting with the wax for a few minutes! Pours a nice dark brown with tan head. Very carbonated - full of bubbles and the head retention is strong.
Nose is toffee, a metallic note that is actually quite strong, a smoky note, vodka (strange, but I can't get it out of my head!), cherries, and maybe a hint of oranges. I honestly can't get that metallic note out of my head. Not a huge fan of this.
Taste is...odd. I honestly can't see why this would be a scotch ale. Tastes like a boozy cocktail with some notes of bread, leather, hops, cherries, and again that metallic note. This wasn't a cheap bottle, so I am quite disappointed. No real sign of malts or toffee on the taste.
Overall, this is fine, but not something I would ever buy again. I think the oranges and cherries messed with what could have been a great beer. This was aged for 18 months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels, so I can only imagine how good it would have been without the fruit.

A bit surprised to see this hasn't been previously added to the data base. No matter...
The beer pours a fairly dark brown color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's a lot going on, as I pick considerable apple brandy, vanilla, light bourbon, brown sugar and light butterscotch. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this moderately sweet beer, with the Apple brandy and vanilla taking center stage. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full in this impressive beer, though of course it doesn't have the sort of Mouthfeel you would encounter in a well made ba impy stout. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there a bit.
Very interesting beer, with a lot of complex flavors. Can't imagine drinking a lot of this (it came in a 375 ml bottle at Beermongers), but this would make an enjoyable after dinner sipper.
Nothing extraordinary here, but a very interesting and enjoyable BA scotch ale from Urban Roots.
