Listed as a pale ale by the brewery and untappd, not an IPA. Also the abv is listed at 5.4%, another indicator of pale ale not ipa.

Had it on draft the night before heading over to the DIPA fest as part of SFBW. Bought a 4 pack of cans. Crazy part is on draft it had more of a proprietary feel to it, the cans, more of the actual C hop bill. Both versions equally good.

Pours golden bronze like color. 3/5" white head. Decent clarity and an overall good looker, but not on par with their lagers in terms of appearance. Aroma wise, I think the Citra came at me more of an equal parts citrus and tropical here. There's been some wild evolution of the Cascade hop lately, getting outside of the traditional grapefruit rind and pine descriptor, so perhaps they brought some of that tropical feel (especially the Southern hemisphere crop). Can wise it seemed more traditional Centennial and Cascade vibeage. Assertions of Cashmere hops could also explain the sensation at issue.

Taste checks out as a pretty nice well hopped pale you've come to expect. Mix of juicy and bitter citrus, but not out of hand either way, goldilocks zoneage. Light minimal malt bill where it should be. Not into full one west coast pale ale territory, but it isn't heavy, but its not as dry as some mouth feels in this style/brewery. Does everything well at the end of the day. Do the Padres still use the San Diego chicken? I should know this being born there and a fan and all. For shame. Get well Big E.

Can dated 07/01/21 into an imperial nonic pint.

L: Pours vibrant golden with nearly 2 fingers of medium-density white head with good retention and left thick ringed lacing.

S: Pine, earthy and floral, quite pleasant.

T: Follows the nose well but with added tropical fruit notes (from the Citra), finishes with moderate bitterness and a hint of astringency, both linger a bit and dry the palate.

F: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, tongue tingles just a smidge from the astringency, slick on the swallow.

O: Really nice approachable IPA that blends modern and classic West Coast hops/flavors. Nice body and ABV to have more than 1 with a meal, and the flavor profile should pair well with their hot chicken menu. Will gladly repeat.
