Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter, cause I didnt feel like grabbing the dimple mug. So here we go.
The beer pours a rich mahogany color with some ruby highlights on the edges of the glass. A creamy beige head of almost 3 cm foams up even on a gentle pour. this foam slowly fades to a sturdy surface covering and leaves some scattered lattice as it recedes down the glass. Surface roam remains throughout the sampling.
Aroma is rich and malty with toffee and dark bread mixing with figs and maybe cherries. Definitely fruitier on the nose than I would have expected, smells more like Aventinus than a regular doppelbock. I really enjoy the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine and gentle carbonation. Texture is smooth and this beer drinks very easy.
Flavor is toffee and more figs with hints of sweet fruit again. A bitey black pepper hit on the finish kicks in too. there is a lot of weizenbock quality here. Maybe its the purple can, but in a blind tasting Id call this a weizenbock for sure. Must be the yeast strain.
Anyway, Im enjoying this beer and very glad to have tried it, even if its not what I anticipated from the beer when I opened the can.

Better than a lot of lesser known doppelbocks I’ve tried.
I would buy it again.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice light brown with off-white head. Good lacing. The nose is full of grainy bread, toffee, huge malts, baking chocolate, biscuits, some raisins, and figs. The taste is interesting. Still getting the toffee and bread, but not a sweet (almost wine-like) taste comes through. Vinous. Honey, oranges, wheat, and grass. Subtle hops come through as well.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is fairly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Overall, a good beer.
