Shocker! While it doesn't say so on the bottle, this is a golden stout. It pours with the sort of deep rich gold you might expect from a koelsch, which totally threw me for a loop. Okay, something new to me then.
Looks like a glass of apple juice. Very slightly cloudy. Very short head, no lace or anything like that. So beyond the initial shock value, not a looker. Nose is chocolately coffee with lactose softness. Comfortable on the nose.
Distinct coffee-chocolate flavour. No real roastiness or ash. Soft and sweet, like a liquid coffee chocolate bar. Mocha mocha mocha. Soft mouthfeel, full on the palate.
So. Interesting. Off the beaten track. Worth a try as a dessert beer, but not something you'll want to drink serially because the underlying sweetness will catch up with you. Novelty brew I'm thinking.
