We partnered with our friends at New Riff and transferred Saturn Ascends (brewed in 2023) out of New Riff 4 year bourbon barrels and into bourbon barrels that held New Riff’s 8 year bourbon and 8 year rye. This stout is loaded with bourbon flaver and will get you through the end of winter.

Poured from an undated 22-oz bomber into two Teku glasses.
Look: Very dark opaque brown-black, no head or lacing, and only a few short-lived bubbles. I gave it a 4 on the Look because I wouldn’t expect a beer of this horsepower to look any different.
Nose: Wow! Immediate bourbon, also cooked dark brown sugar, fresh apples, dried dark stone fruit, and a bit of earthiness. Also a bit of licorice when the beer warms to room temperature.
Taste: Onigoodness! Cherry, dark roast, cooked dark brown sugar, and apple in the attack, then the impact of the bourbon. The finish continues the bourbon and resolves into the bitterness of coffee without devolving into astringency.
Mouthfeel: Thick and smooth, just enough carbonation.
Overall: This is as special as an RIS sipper can get. The flavor — and it doesn’t even attempt to hide the alcohol — is full and extraordinarily well-balanced. Save the albeit outstanding Old Rasputins and Expedition Stouts for when you more want to “drink” an RIS; go to this one on a special evening when you want to sip something special with someone special.
I’ll be picking up another bottle of this if they have it next time I’m by Alexandria Brewing.

From the growler in a snifter. This MONSTER pours a deep murky blackish brown with
a nice head of khaki foam that settles to a thin ring and dusty layer with some nice legs!
Nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark cocoa, subtle dark fruit, and subtle coffee. Flavors
find 11 on the amplifier. Waves of bourbon cascade over oak, vanilla, and astringent booze
dashed in dark cocoa, mellow dark coffee, and a melange of dark berry notes of black, blue,
and raspberry with a touch of raisin, mellow char, and subtle smoke. Mouth feel is
full, smooth, rich, coating, warming, and finishing with a very nice bitter malt note.
Overall-----WOW....please bottle this for the fine advocates.....and enter it at the GABF.
A winner!
Cheers
