8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square. A collaboration with Grant MacEwen College, just down the street from here.
This beer appears a murky, medium bronzed amber colour, with one skinny finger of wispy and bubbly bone-white head, which leaves some sparse and spotty lace around the glass as things slowly progress.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, some estery floral notes, dried and crusty honey, and very tame earthy, musty, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy cereal malt, that tea that I don't like that is still in the drawer, honeyed crackers, and more well-understated earthy, leafy, and herbal hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really causing any sort of trouble at this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the malt and fading spicy essences presiding.
Overall - this is a fairly interesting iteration from this geek-forward brewing concern. Thankfully the spice is kept on the down low, so I can actually enjoy it.
