By happenstance I stumbled into opening day for Burke's Alewerks in West Newton. Soft opening, they've got pizza and pretzels, maybe 5 brews on tap. I had Le Doubla, a 7% double IPA and the ESB, both were very good. The staff and owner are engaging, and an enthusiastic crowd bellied up to the bar.
Very much a work in progress, they are installing the brew house (presently brewing at Stellwagen in Marshfield) and planning their food strategy. I liked their old brewery in Hanover, but I'm stoked they moved to my hometown. I wish them good fortune!
UPDATE: Burke's Alewerks has sadly closed it's doors here after only 4 months. No particular reason was given.
